Spring is the season to clean! We tend to be a bit lazier with cleaning in the winter, and spring is the best time to deep clean all the places you've forgotten for a year. It can be hard to motivate yourself to get started, but there are a few tactics you can try to motivate yourself for spring cleaning.
Set Realistic Expectations
While spring is the time for cleaning things you wouldn't otherwise worry about, it's best to not go overboard with the ideas about all the things you'll clean and change in your home. If you plan for too much, it can seem like an overwhelming task, and you're more likely to not want to get started. Plan a realistic amount of cleaning you can section out into days and you'll feel so much more ready to tackle your spring cleaning.
Tools for the Job
It's always fun to get new cleaning tools! Getting tools specifically for cleaning certain areas in your house will make you more likely to get started cleaning. When you spend money on something, you're more likely to finish the job. Get tools specifically for cleaning those small areas and specific bits that you'd otherwise be at a loss for what to do about, and you'll be much more motivated to clean any part of your house.
Schedule
The best way to guarantee you'll actually get around to your spring cleaning is to add your tasks to your schedule. Add specific tasks to a calendar, and when you'll be completing them in the day. Give yourself plenty of time and flexibility, and don't be discouraged if you miss a day. If you give yourself plenty of time, there will be time to complete any missed tasks later. You have all of spring to get your spring cleaning done!
Basic House Cleaning First
It feels kind of silly cleaning baseboards when you haven't even cleaned the kitchen yet. Having a nice foundation of a clean house can give you a lot of motivation to finally get down to the specific tasks for spring cleaning. That being said, do things logically. If you're going to be clearing cobwebs from the ceiling, it makes sense to wait to vacuum until after you've finished that task.
Inspiration
If all else fails, you can motivate yourself to spring clean by looking at spring cleaning or redecorating inspiration online! Sites like Pinterest and Instagram have spring cleaning as a hot topic around spring time, and have tons of photos and ideas you might find inspirational and motivational. Seeing other people's clean houses really can inspire you to clean yours.
It really can be hard to get started with spring cleaning, but usually it just takes one step to get started with dusting those ceiling fans and cleaning those window sills. Whether that step takes some planning, pre-cleaning, fun cleaning-related purchases, or some inspirational browsing, you'll find your motivation to spring into action and clean your whole house.
